La firma de servicios profesionales EY Perú presenta el libro Historia de las lenguas del antiguo obispado de Trujillo, una obra que describe y rememora las antiguas lenguas que se hablaron en la zona norte del país, en el territorio que abarcó el antiguo obispado de Trujillo, que comprendió las actuales regiones de La Libertad, Lambayeque, Piura, Cajamarca, San Martín y Amazonas.
Su autor, José Antonio Salas García, destacado lingüista y lexicógrafo con un especial interés en el estudio del léxico coloquial en el español peruano, ha dedicado varios años a la investigación de las lenguas que hablaban nuestros antepasados y su influencia cultural. En esta oportunidad, en colaboración con EY Perú, revela un fascinante legado lingüístico de cinco lenguas costeras (tallán, sechura o sec, olmos, mochica oyunga y pescadora o quingnam), dos lenguas de la sierra (quechua y culli) y dos de la selva (cholón e hivito).
“Las lenguas originarias plasman la visión, conocimientos e historia de nuestro querido país. Esto es importante porque, a través de ellas se conservan y transmiten tradiciones, valores, conocimientos, lo que nos permite entender nuestro pasado para preservarlo y transmitirlo a las generaciones futuras. Ha sido un orgullo, como empresa, contribuir en un trabajo que, a fin de cuentas, habla de identidad cultural y social nacional”, comenta Luis Felipe Chancafé, Socio Líder de la Región Norte de EY Perú.
En Historia de las lenguas del antiguo obispado de Trujillo, se utilizan mapas e ilustraciones que permiten al lector descubrir los orígenes de estas lenguas, sus áreas geográficas de uso y las palabras comunes que hoy forman parte de la identidad cultural y lingüística del Perú.
Además, se revelan hallazgos para todos aquellos interesados en la historia peruana. Por ejemplo, que la denominación “Chiclayo” proviene de la palabra mochica “Cɥiclaiæp”, que significa “lugar donde se hacen los amigos”, una definición que le da sentido al sobrenombre de “Ciudad de la Amistad” con el que también se le denomina.
“Desde pequeño siempre tuve ciertas interrogantes sobre las lenguas que utilizaban los antiguos peruanos. Yo sabía que el quechua no podía ser la única lengua autóctona, y, de hecho, tenía en mi casa un diccionario mochica. Así que cuando empecé a recopilar información sobre las lenguas norperuanas hace más de 20 años atrás, descubrí muchísimos datos que nunca imaginé que hoy se plasmarían en el libro “La Historia de las lenguas del antiguo obispado de Trujillo”, una publicación elaborada junto a EY en donde respondo a todas mis interrogantes”, expresa José Antonio Salas, autor del libro.
Preparar esta investigación no ha sido sencillo, pues fue desarrollada escrupulosamente durante 20 años mediante la lectura y análisis de diversas fuentes de información que datan de varios años y siglos de antigüedad. Una de ellas, el Plan de 43 voces castellanas traducidas a las ocho lenguas que hablan los indios de la costa, sierra y montañas del obispado de Trujillo, un documento que fue preparado por el obispo Martínez Compañón en el siglo XVIII en su afán por entender la diversidad lingüística y cultural de los pobladores, con el fin de lograr la propagación de la religión católica en el extenso territorio que conformaba el antiguo obispado de Trujillo.
Este material fue una pieza fundamental para el análisis de Salas, ya que corrobora la existencia de las lenguas y traduce al español los significados de 43 voces de ocho de las nueve lenguas anteriormente habladas en el norte del país.
