Ford continúa avanzando en su camino hacia un futuro más sostenible con la creación de una nueva planta de energía solar en sus instalaciones de Almussafes, en Valencia, España. Para 2035, el compromiso de la compañía consiste en que todos los vehículos vendidos en Europa sean eléctricos cero emisiones; además de lograr la neutralidad en toda su huella de carbono europea tanto en sus instalaciones como en los procesos de logística y proveedores. Esta última iniciativa localizada en Valencia, que arrancó a finales de 2022, pone de manifiesto la firme apuesta de Ford para cumplir dicho compromiso.
El área fotovoltaica, que convierte la energía solar en electricidad, se encuentra en una zona no productiva de la planta valenciana, abarca dos extensiones de paneles solares capaces de producir, cada año, la energía equivalente al funcionamiento de 1 400 hogares medios1. La producción actual, de cerca de 4 641 megavatios hora anuales, aumentará este verano en 3 762 megavatios hora anuales; el equivalente a 1 100 hogares medios más. En la práctica, esto significa que este año, la fábrica de Ford en Valencia reducirá significativamente su actual demanda de electricidad a la red nacional.
Con el objetivo de alcanzar los 10 megavatios de potencia máxima para 2024, Ford desea ampliar las zonas de paneles solares a otros terrenos no productivos. También, a futuro, se está estudiando la viabilidad de instalar paneles solares en los tejados de los edificios de las instalaciones.
«Ahora más que nunca, todos somos conscientes de la necesidad de utilizar fuentes de energía renovables. A medida que, en Ford, avanzamos hacia un futuro totalmente eléctrico y hacia la neutralidad de la huella de carbono en todo nuestro proceso de producción, invertir en innovaciones como esta nueva planta de energía solar en Valencia supone la creación de energía renovable autoabastecida, lo que contribuye de una manera importante en nuestro objetivo de ayudar a construir un mundo mejor», comentó Stuart Southgate, director de Ingeniería Sostenible, Medioambiental y de Seguridad, Ford Europa.
Desde el 1 de enero de 2022, toda la energía eléctrica utilizada en la planta de Ford en Almussafes procede de fuentes renovables, al igual que toda la energía eléctrica adquirida para alimentar las instalaciones de fabricación de Ford en toda Europa. La compañía busca, continuamente, formas de aumentar el uso de energía limpia y tiene por meta utilizar el 100% de electricidad libre de carbono en toda su fabricación mundial para 2035.
