Fomentar la reducción del impacto negativo sobre el planeta y la adopción de una actitud consciente hacia el uso de los recursos naturales son algunos de los propósitos del Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente, establecido hace más de 50 años por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas, ONU. En ese sentido, BASF, empresa química líder a nivel mundial, reafirma su compromiso con un futuro sostenible a través de diversas iniciativas a favor del ecosistema.
«Son innumerables las iniciativas que hemos adoptado como industria química global con el objetivo de evaluar y mejorar las prácticas de sostenibilidad en todos los frentes – desde la cadena de suministro, pasando por nuestra forma de producción, hasta la entrega de soluciones innovadoras que lleven productos sostenibles a la sociedad en los más diversos sectores económicos», comenta María Jesús López, Gerente de Asuntos Corporativos y Sustentabilidad Chile & Perú.
Uno de los objetivos anunciados por la empresa es lograr un crecimiento neutro en emisiones de CO2 para 2050. La inversión hasta 2030 alcanza los 3.000 millones de euros para lograr la neutralidad climática.
En Perú, se ha venido desarrollando diversas acciones en todas las divisiones de negocio, alineándose a su propósito como compañía, crear química para un futuro sustentable.
Soluciones de menor impacto
Una base concentrada para jabón líquido para la ropa que optimiza el proceso de producción y reduce la huella de carbono en un 75%, el consumo de energía en un 67% y acelera el ciclo de producción en 4,5 veces. Estos son los resultados de una importante innovación, SolupratTM Vegano, que responde a la demanda de productos más sostenibles en el mercado del cuidado del hogar. Forma parte de B-Active+®, un portafolio que ofrece más de 30 productos centrados en la sostenibilidad.
Otra forma de reducir la huella de carbono es introducir biomasa como insumo en el proceso de producción. BASF utiliza esta característica incluso en pinturas para automóviles más sostenibles y certificadas según el enfoque de equilibrio de biomasa. Ya se ofrecen un barniz y un e-coat que evitan alrededor del 40% de las emisiones de CO2, por capa de pintura. Esta contribución permitirá reducir en 15.000 toneladas las emisiones de CO2 de aquí a 2030 en las fábricas de BMW, el primer cliente en adoptar las soluciones.

Agricultura sostenible
Según la FAO, el 75% de los productos alimenticios a nivel global dependen de esta acción que realizan las abejas y otros polinizadores. En esa línea, BASF, busca la forma de transformar la agricultura a través de innovaciones como BEEMusic. Durante un riguroso proceso de investigación, se encontró que el sonido producido por las abejas estimula a las flores, haciéndolas más coloridas, con un néctar más dulce, según datos entregados por National Geographic. Es por ello por lo que se optó por grabar el sonido de su aleteo, reproduciéndolo en una frecuencia de 0,2 a 0,5 Kilohercios y mezclarlo con música para obtener una pieza sonora completa para el uso de los agricultores y el público en general.
“Esta iniciativa busca ofrecer a los agricultores y a cualquier amante de las plantas y la naturaleza, alternativas que van mucho más allá de los métodos tradicionales. A partir de diferentes investigaciones realizadas, hemos encontrado que este tipo de innovaciones e iniciativas tienen una funcionalidad muy especial en los cultivos y demuestra nuestro compromiso con el campo”, explica Leonardo Virviescas, líder regional de comunicaciones de soluciones para la agricultura en BASF.
