El cuidado interdental es una estrategia esencial en la higiene bucal, ya que la acumulación de placa y restos de alimentos entre los dientes puede conducir a la formación de lesiones cariosas y enfermedades periodontales, ya que según estudios de Dentaid Research Center, el 78% de las caries son de origen interdental.
“Las caries siempre ha sido una pandemia que no se habla. Sabemos que en algunas situaciones cerca del 98% de la población adulta tiene al menos una lesión por caries”, sostuvo el Dr. Ítalo Funes Rumiche, ex directivo del Colegio Odontológico del Perú.
Ante ello, los cepillos interdentales podría ser el complemento perfecto ante la habitual limpieza bucal ya que solo el uso de cepillo dentales garantiza el 60% de higiene bucal.
“Los cepillos interdentales ayudarían a limpiar los restos de comidas que se quedan en la zona interdental y mantendría la higiene bucal en un 100% junto a los otros implementos de salud bucal como colutorios o enjuagues bucales”, añadió Funes.
¿En qué se diferencia un cepillo interdental del hilo dental?
Los cepillos interdentales tienen una usabilidad de mayor confortabilidad para sus usuarios, lo que lleva a un proceso de limpieza más eficiente. Cuentan con cerdas flexibles que se utilizan para limpiar los espacios interdentales más abiertos. En cuanto los hilos dentales se usan para espacios cerrados o estrechos.
¿Qué limpiadores interdentales se encuentran disponibles en el mercado?
Actualmente existen limpiadores dentales en 2 categorías disponibles en farmacias a nivel local:
- Cepillo interdental:Son los cepillos interdentales clásicos para espacios abiertos que tienen forma cilíndrica alargada y delgada. Suelen ser de diferentes tamaños y colores, dependiendo de la necesidad del paciente.
- Flosser Adulto e infantil:Son aditamentos interdentales para espacios cerrados diseñados para facilitar y agilizar la limpieza interdental, manteniendo el hilo dental con la tensión adecuada a través de un mango de fácil agarre.
¿En qué momento usar el cepillo interdental en el proceso de higiene bucal?
Para el doctor Funes, el orden correcto de la higiene bucal empieza de la siguiente manera:
- Limpieza dental al menos 3 veces al día:Preferible al despertar y antes de dormir, así como también después de comer.
- Cepillos dentales con cerdas finas:El cirujano dentista determinará la clase de cepillos que necesitas dependiendo del estado de la salud bucal. No obstante, lo recomendable es el uso de cerdas suaves que eviten irritaciones.
- Cepillos interdentales:Para limpiezas de espacios abiertos entre los dientes.
- Hilo dental:Su uso es para espacios cerrados o estrechos.
- Enjuagues bucales: Colutorios con cloruro de cetilpiridinio (CPC) para la protección contra virus y bacterias.
De esta manera, se puede asegurar una limpieza al 100%. Recuerde visitar a su cirujano dentista cada cierto tiempo para mantener un correcto cuidado y control la salud bucal.
