Gerente de Sedalib alertó que estas cuencas alimentan de agua a la ciudad de Trujillo, poniendo en riesgo a miles de pobladores.
Huamachuco. El gerente general de servicio de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (Sedalib), Juan Mimbela León, alertó a las autoridades competentes sobre la contaminación registrada en las cuencas ubicadas en la sierra de La Libertad y que alimentan de agua a la ciudad de Trujillo, a fin que se realice una pronta reacción en fiscalización minera y legislativa por parte de las instituciones respectivas.
Esta situación se origina en la cabecera ubicada en Laguna Grande donde los mineros ilegales de Quiruvilca, provincia de Santiago de Chuco, se multiplican diariamente ante la completa ausencia de las entidades estatales. Todo esto se da tras el abandono de una operación minera que, aparentemente, no es fiscalizada por las entidades estatales respectivas ni controlada por los efectivos policiales asignados en la zona.
Antecedentes
Según un artículo aparecido en la Red Muqui, “Southern Peaks Mining (SPM), a través de su subsidiaria Minera Quiruvilca Limited, compró primero en junio 2012 la totalidad de la unidad minera Quiruvilca a la canadiense Panamerican Silver. Luego se la vendió a ella misma utilizando a otras de sus subsidiarias. En diciembre del año 2017, un ciudadano boliviano la declaró en quiebra y dejaron de operar desde enero 2018 cuando se abandonó la mina y dejaron de cumplir con el plan de cierre”.
Tras el abandono de las operaciones sin ejecutar el plan de cierre, los mineros ilegales incrustaron con miles de socavones una concesión estatal que, al parecer, a nadie le interesa recuperar. Las construcciones y socavones se pueden ver desde la misma carretera a la altura de Quiruvilca. Incluso, hay paraderos donde las unidades saben que deben esperar para transportar pasajeros y carga sospechosa.
La Autoridad Nacional del Agua, a través de la Administración Local de Agua Moche Virú Chao, concluyó que la compañía «abandonó la Unidad Minera Quiruvilca, quedando sin tratamiento las aguas ácidas provenientes de las relaveras: Santa Catalina y San Felipe, que afectan la calidad del agua de la Cuenca Moche desde su naciente».
A la fecha, la Dirección Regional de Minería no ha tomado cartas en el asunto ni los congresistas de La Libertad que solo prometen acciones. El último fue Enrique Alva, investigado por los delitos contra la tranquilidad pública, organización criminal y tráfico de influencia agravada. La población espera una pronta reacción en fiscalización minera y legislativa de nuevas autoridades.
