Un 5 de junio, pero de 1952, Suzuki lanzó al mercado su primera motocicleta, la Power Free, un modelo que serviría no sólo para proyectar a la marca al mercado mundial, sino que, además, movilizar a gran parte de la población japonesa de aquel momento. Un vehículo de dos ruedas, más parecido a una bicicleta con motor, en este caso un monocilíndrico de 36 cc, que destacaba por su desempeño y por su sencillez mecánica.
Pero para poder llegar a la Power Free, tuvieron que pasar 43 años, cuando Michio Suzuki abrió su primer taller, en 1909, sin embargo, no era de motocicletas, sino de telares, el cual duró hasta el estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Tras finalizar el conflicto bélico Suzuki empezó a trabajar con la idea de cambiar de giro. La búsqueda de alternativas de movilidad provocaron que el empresario japonés decidiera crear un sistema de propulsión para acoplarlo a una bicicleta, pues de esta manera se podían utilizar los pedales con el motor apagado, y también aprovechar la cadena como elemento de transmisión entre el motor y la rueda trasera.
Para enero de 1952 Suzuki ya tenían listo un prototipo creado al que bautizaron como Atom, equipado con un motor de apenas 30 cc y que generaba 0.2 caballos de fuerza.
Dos meses después y tras varios cambios, se presentó la segunda y definitiva versión, impulsada por un bloque de 36 cc y de un caballos de fuerza, capaz de girar hasta las 4,000 rpm. A partir de ese momento Suzuki realizó diferentes pruebas de funcionamiento, las que sirvieron para realizar algunos cambios a nivel de comodidad como de practicidad.
Una vez concluida esta etapa se dio comienzo a su comercialización en los meses posteriores, con el apoyo de diferentes empresas externas de componentes. El 5 de junio de 1952 se lanzó al mercado y tuvo un gran recibimiento, pues las ventas mensuales superaban las 4,000 unidades. A partir de ese momento Suzuki se convirtió en un constructor de referencia a nivel mundial.
